Closure of Playground on East Evergreen Street

Closure of Playground on East Evergreen Street
Posted on 07/16/2019

Attention Ben-Hem Community & Playground Users:

The playground on East Evergreen Street in the front of the school (formerly known as the "preschool playground") is no longer operational.

Effective immediately, this playground is closed to everyone. No one (students and/or community members) may use it at any time.

We have included a link to images of the playground so that everyone is clear on which space is no longer operational. If you encounter the space, you will notice there is caution tape wrapped around all play structures.

This decision was made due to safety considerations. The playground inspector says it is no longer allowed or safe and rated it the worst rating (which means closure).  Unfortunately, the prior superintendent did not put replacement on a capital plan so we have to close the playground and it will be removed. We will work to find monies to replace, but it takes time. The playground will be removed by the Department of Public Works in the near future.

However, the new playground (located behind Ben-Hem) is operational and open to the public after-school and after school summer program hours/weekends.

Thank you for understanding this important safety decision.
